Frequently asked questions
-
At what resolution (dpi and megapixels) do you scan?
We scan at very high resolutions, which ensures two things: that your photos will look sharp, and that you'll be able to enlarge them and use them for photo gifts. For paper photos, we scan at 600 dpi, which is approximately 12 megapixels (depending on the size of the photo). For 35mm slides and negatives, we scan at 10 megapixels. In the case of paper photos, the digital file we will send you will be able to print a 2X enlargement, and the files we will create for you from your slides and negatives will be able to print to approximately 9" x 13" (and in some cases more) while still remaining sharp.
-
What if I underestimate the number of scans that I need?
It can be a hassle to count photos, we know. As a tip, a stack of 50 paper photos is generally about a half-inch high. As a rule, however, if you send us more photos, slides, or negatives than you've ordered, we will contact you and arrange to scan the extra amount at 29 cents an image, as well.
-
Should I remove my images from photo albums and slide carousels before sending them to you?
Yes, you should remove them first before sending them in. Particularly with some kinds of photos albums, take care when removing the photos to not harm them.
-
How are the scans delivered to me?
We will put them onto a DVD (or CD, as you choose) and return them, via our securely tracked shipping, along with your originals. You may use your personal computer to make copies of your scan disc once you receive it.
-
How long do I have to ship my originals?
We recommend that you ship them reasonably soon after you place your order, simply because we want your memories to be preserved sooner, rather than later. But the choice is up to you.
